Vortex formed, sucked into the Abyss
Exited into a blizzard, ice biting like millions of insects
Created orb of all-seeing light
Reached a new understanding of Spellcasting
Tripped on stone before the Temple
Hand landed on hidden release
Door ground open, decay’s breath touched me
Stumbled down stairs into the obsidian crypt
Collapsed shivering before Taphumet’s bronze statue
Became a worshipper of Taphumet
Attained new stage of enlightenment
Formed vestments of warmth from stored grains in urns
Taphumet’s glacial hand caressed my heart
Offered knowledge of shock by Taphumet: accepted
Left the temple, trudged through the Abyss’s frozen delirium
Saw the vortex mouth opening
Return beckoning, sweet release
Noticed a polar bear

Colleen Anderson has a BFA in writing and her poems have been published in such venues as Mirror Dance, Polu Texni, The Future Fire, HWA Poetry Showcase and others.
